The Wedding Singer

A few months ago, I was hired for one of my most unique projects yet: to write a custom song for a couple getting married, and then to perform the song at their wedding, wearing a white tux and playing a white baby grand, all while being FILMED FOR A TV SHOW! After sitting down with Ada and Amanda, the wedding planners from Fresh Events Company, to learn about my subjects, Jen and Phil, I came up with a song, entitled “You Are My Dream.” The song, and my very presence at the wedding (whose theme was “Sexy South Beach”) was to be kept a hush-hush secret to the couple. You can imagine Jen and Phil’s surprise when a complete stranger broke out into a song with details about how they met, their quirks, and other intimate info, all in front of 200 of their close friends and family members!

Anyway, it was great to be involved, and I learned something important: while I originally took the gig to get on TV, the most satisfying part of the experience was watching Jen and Phil’s tearful reaction to my song, and having them and their parents come up to me afterwards thanking me profusely and giving me hugs! Let’s face it - while many of my songwriting friends and I hope that our songs will bring us fame and fortune, that’s not why we write. We write to make an impact.

Here is a clip of me playing the first verse and chorus:

Beautifully done. Nice tux, too! All I can say is that show biz sucks. Judging by the vapid, self-righteous behavior of those that have made it, it doesn’t seem to get any better with the fame and fortune. Remain open to applying your talent elsewhere.
